Okay. I just had this idea. I haven't really thought it through properly yet but I'm just going to jump in. 'Cause that's how I roll.
Did you ever do those stories either with your friends or in school where you write one part, another person writes the next and so on until it comes back to you?
Well that's my plan.
I've done it several times before with my friends with varied results but now I want to try it online with you guys. I pretty sure that everyone on here loves writing (otherwise why have a blog?) and I know you all rock at it.
If you'd like to be a part of it let me know in the comments and if I get enough volunteers I'll set up a blog and figure out how to make those who want to take part "authors" so they can add directly to the story.
In the comments also suggest genre and basic rules because I haven't thought this through properly yet.
Yay!! Fun and nonsensical. My favourite. Wonderful idea Penquins
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean you'll participate, Lara? Or are you just commenting on how awesome I am?
ReplyDeleteIt is an affirmative for participation and a comment on your awesomeness
ReplyDeleteYay! If I can get about two more people then it's a go. Are there any particular genres you'd rather work with? That's probably an important thing for everyone to agree upon.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, did you call me penQuins earlier? (In a way that's kind of cool).
so I did. I can't type or spell so we'll just go with it.
ReplyDeleteGenres...not so good with thrillers
This would be awesome, Penguins! I can't guarantee that I can participate after mid August--I have to go back to school *cries*--but I definitely can help before then. :D
ReplyDeleteAs far as genre goes, most of my own writing has been crime fiction/mystery type stuff, but I am open to just about anything, except romances. :D
Unfortunately, my forte is not in fiction writing; however, I will be more than glad to participate! Concerning the issue of genre, my own writing centers primarily upon human relations; but I am not well versed in horror or science-fiction.
ReplyDeletei'll do it! [:
ReplyDeleteI can *try* to participate (you know how I am with these sorts of things).
ReplyDeleteOn genre, I think comedy is the easiest to write for these sorts of things but not the most rewarding. Things like thrillers would require more communication and planning among the writers for them to actually make sense. (Note, I'm not saying I want comedy rather than thriller -as I don't- I'm just saying some are harder than others)
Yay! That's more than I hoped for seeming I was expecting the idea to flunk.
ReplyDeleteZella, that's fine. I start university on the 9th of August and will probably have trouble participating then too.
Genre is going to be complicated, it seems. Like Maths I mostly write about human relations and such but I want to try something different so I'm leaning towards Zella's mystery but that probably comes close to conflicting with Lara's and Maths anti-thriller/horror. And then I'm also leaning towards si-fi, which Maths doesn't want. This is only because I just watched all of Darker than Black and am totally obsessed with contractors (I love that they have to pay a price to use their powers. Expecially that guy at the start who had to break his own fingers. It was all kind of cool).
Anyway...
Because I don't want to decide on a genre that others may not be happy with I'm going to stick a poll over there -> for everyone to vote for a genre on. Please vote.
O'Malley, glad to see you'll try. Comedy is easier you're right about it not being as satisfying. Thriller and mystery would need more communication, but that's what comments are for.
ReplyDeleteI want to participate but I'm not very good at writing. Oh well, I'll give it a go. :D.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, my uni starts on 19th July (FAIL WHALE) so I should be getting organised for that. /lazy.
Laura, if you can write or not really doesn't matter. I'm just glad to have you on board.
ReplyDeleteI think we could maybe do a combo of all of the above. One genre similar to mystery is suspense, which can be similar to horror, too, because the atmosphere and reader reaction are more important, to an extent, than the plot details. Likewise, since mystery plays a role in every story--even literary fiction has an element of mystery in its plot just because the reader is curious about what a character will do or what will happen as a result--we could incorporate some sci fi elements, perhaps a dystopian sci fi setting, which could be tense and atmospheric but also escapist fantasy. So . . . perhaps it could be a sci fi suspense thriller. Those of us who feel more comfortable writing about the human elements would do a great job developing the characters and those of us who like suspense and horror could handle those parts, which would give us plot development and atmosphere, and those of us who prefer sci fi/fantasy would work wonders with the world building. That way we could play to everyone's strengths, while still letting ourselves be challenged, and not exclude anyone.
ReplyDeleteI think I made this worse rather than actually helping . . . *runs away*
I'm back at school as of Tuesday with exams 2 weeks after. Participation my be limited, but it can be a stress relief mechanism.
ReplyDeleteCombination of genres sounds good. Each working to there forte. Good idea Zella :)
Yeah, I like your idea, Zella. Let's go with your idea.
ReplyDeleteIs everyone cool if I start then?
Okay Penguins, off you go.
ReplyDeleteReally struggling with the spelling today - *their^^
Oh... apparently I need email addresses to make people co-authors. If you don't want to write it here then those twitter can PM me at http://twitter.com/penguins_quack I already have Lara's and O'Malley's email addresses so that's fine. It's just Gummy that I need to works something else out with, then.
ReplyDeletelaura_luvs_simpsons@hotmail.com is my email, if you need it. :D.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura. I've sent you the author invite.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so exciting! I'd LOVE to participate!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Lucy! Glad to have you. Although I need your email address so I can add you as an author. If you don't want to write it here I'm sure we can figure some other way out.
ReplyDeleteI'll join in too, but you know what my story writing abilities are like. I will also have limited time.
ReplyDeleteThat's fine, Chairman. I've sent you the email to become an author to your uni address. Looking forward to working with you.
ReplyDeleteAlso, to help us keep track of each other, might I suggest a forum? I know a site that does free hosting.
ReplyDeleteAh, good idea, Chairman. I take it you are offering to set that up? Yes. Yes, you are. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThen just give us the URL and I'll put it on the blog.
Here's the URL:

I'll get to work figuring out how the board works
Awesome, Chairman. I love how it's called Penguins Group. Makes me feel special. And reminds me of the publishers.
