Everyone's a Hero

So I'm bored and haven't blogged in ages and for lack of anything interesting to write, I'm going to do this think Zella recently did on her blog where you put your Ipod/MP3 player on shuffle and answer the following questions with the song titles that appear. I've done it before in a note on Facebook where my iPod was obviously keen to embarrass me, but now I'm going to try again. I'll also link the songs, like Zella did. Sorry about the ads at the start of the Blink songs.

1. What do you like in a guy?
Over My Head (Cable Car) (the A Day to Remember cover). I don't like the implications of this...

2. What is your life's purpose?
Enjoy Your Day (Alkaline Trio). From the title, I'd say my purpose is simply to enjoy myself, from the lyrics, it's to be miserable while wishing happiness on others.

3. What is your motto?
Always (Blink-182). I guess I'll always try something? I guess?

4. What do your friends think of you?
Corporate Rock (Anti-Flag) My friends think I'm commercially oriented!? Well, I guess I deserve this after I told O'Malley that "if we were in a band and our manager suggested changing our sound I'd do it, after all, it's just good business". I'm such a sell out! *tears*

5. What do you think about very often?
The Ink and the Quill (Be Afraid) (Anti-Flag) One of my favourite songs that defined summer for me. When I think of summer I think of kites and driving around town with this song playing. So I guess I do think of it often, because summer was great and remembered fondly.

6. What does 2+2 equal?
Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial) (Coheed and Cambria) In BASE 4! (Wow. That worked out well! Also, I find this song hilarious because it's about an author arguing with his bicycle over whether or not he should kill off his favourite character, based on his ex-fiance, that he is still in love with. The line "What would you know, you're just a bicycle" cracks me up every time)

7. What do you think of your best friends?
Chemical Warfare (The Dead Kennedy's) When my friends and I get together we unleash deadly chemicals on country clubs. Just ask O'Malley.

8. What do you think of the person you like?
Paper Wings (Rise Against) A love song. Of course. One that says I'm not waiting for you.

9. What is your life story?
Andy, You're a Star (the Killers) Damn right, I'm a star. But my name's not Andy...

10. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Elf Tower New Mexico (Coheed and Cambria) Yep. I want to be a fantasy creature.

11. What do you think when you see the person you like?
Down (Blink-182) Feeling depressed because you love someone who doesn't respond. Adequate.

12. What do your parents think of you?
My List (the Killers) (This is making it look like I only have about four bands on my iPod) Well, it's basically a love song, but I guess you could apply it to caring about your children?

13. What will you dance to at your wedding?
Paperthin Hymn (Anberlin) A song of a dying loved one? Great.

14. What will they play at your funeral?
Cold War Transmissions (Anberlin) Sorry, iPod, but I've already chosen my funeral song. I'm having There Will be No Violins When You Die by I Killed the Prom Queen. Sorry.

15. What is your hobby?
Veronica Sawyer Smokes (AFI) This song is about Winona Ryder's character in Heathers, which I have not seen. So either it means I like smoking (I don't) or Winona Ryder films (I've only seen a couple). I'm going to say my hobby is making things smoke, thus, catching stuff on fire. Ask my old chemistry teacher. I love fire.

16. What is your biggest secret?
Shell Shock (New Order) Either I'm hiding a case of combat stress reaction or heartbreak. I guess.

17. What do you think of your friends?
Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie) I've spent the entire of the song and more trying to figure out what this could mean. My friends are rock stars? Persona's of David Bowie? Well hung alien guitarists? I don't know.

18. What's the worst thing that could happen?
Seventeen Ain't So Sweet (The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus) The worst thing that could happen? People could start using the word "ain't" instead of "is not". Ain't is not a word. Use isn't, thank you very much.

19. How will you die?
Girl's Not Grey (AFI) I think... from the lyrics... maybe... I'm just doing to lay down and die one day. In saddened sleep.

20. What is the one thing you regret?
Hello Again (Lost Prophets) My biggest regret is hiding away from the world.

21. What makes you laugh?
From Heads Unworthy (Rise Against) This is a song about taking a stand and apparently I laugh at that. Why? Because I think it's funny that you think you could change anything. Hahahahaha.

22. What makes you cry?
Second Solution (The Living End) What can I say? Death Row is scary.

23. Will you ever get married?
The Tale of Sir Robin (Monty Python) I'm not afraid of marriage , but I might bravely run away.

24. What scares you the most?
Stationary Stationery (Anberlin) Being ditched by the guy I like, simply put.

25. Does anyone like you?
The Unwinding Cable Car (Anberlin) (Enough with the Anberlin already!) I guess? Not exactly a love song but it does have the line "I'll guard your heart".

26. If you could go back in time, what would you change?
Historia Calamitatum (Rise Against) The history of my calamities. When I go back in time I'm going to exploit it for the sole purpose of fixing the things that went wrong in my past. Because I'm selfish.

27. What hurts right now?
I Feel So (Box Car Racer) Everything hurts.

28. What will you post this as?
Everyone's a Hero (Nathan Fillion/Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) I shall do as you wish.

Well, unlike when I did this on Facebook, I didn't get too embarrassed by my music. There's no Naruto soundtrack playing at my funeral this time. I have to defend my iPod, though, I do have a greater variety of music then what is shown here. It's not only Anberlin and Blink-182. My shuffle just wasn't very inventive today.

Musical Tag

After writing that title I wish I could say that this post is about an awsome game of tag that's similar to musical chairs (still trying to figure out how this game would work) but actually, I found a tag over with RandomRawr which I decided I had to do, although I think it could of had a better variety of questions. Here it is:

List 10 artists in no particular order (do it before reading the questions below).
1) Rise Against
2) AFI
3) Coheed and Cambria
4) The Killers
5) Alkaline Trio
6) British India
7) The Amity Affliction
8) Birds of Tokyo
9) A Day to Remember
10) Funeral for a Friend

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
Run the Red Light

What is your favourite song of 8?
Medicine

What kind of impact has 1 left on your life?
They saved me when I could no longer breathe. They keep me alive.

What is your favourite lyric of 5s?
Sorry I'm late, I was out spoiling my liver.

How many times have you seen 4 live?
Never. Sadness.

What is your favourite song of 7?
Hard. Maybe their cover of Love is a Battlefield. Amazing cover.

Is there any song of 3 that makes you sad?
Not really. Their songs aren't really sad ones. Maybe Neverender, and if you're in the right state of mind maybe Keeping the Blade

What is your favourite song by 9?
Ergh! Hard. You Should Have Killed Me When You Had the Chance or Last Request or… I can't really decide

How did you first get into 2?
My cousin introduced me too them. I was staying at his place for a week and he was struggling to keep me entertained.

How did you first get into 3?
Again, my cousin. He played me one of their songs and them I went out and bought all their albums.

What is your favourite song by 4?
All These Things That I've Done from their first album. Was listening to it yesterday. Pure awesomeness. Or, I suppose, Glamourous Indie Rock and Roll.

How many times have you seen 9 live?
None, I missed them when they were out here last.

What is a good memory concerning 10?
Rocking out to Waterfront Dance Club in a total Risky Business kind of way.

Is there a song by 8 that makes you sad?
Yeah, a lot of it actually. Some of it just has this beautiful, melancholy feel to it.

What is your favourite song of 1's?
Ergh! It's like Sophie's Choice. I love them all. Um… I really love Ready to Fall, Roadside, Everchanging and Anywhere but Here, but I seriously can't decide

How did you become a fan of 10?
A frienemy piling as much music on me as possible. As I shifted through it all Funeral for a Friend just seemed to stand out.

My Life According to Rise Against

Okay, so my friend did this in a note on Facebook for U2 and told me I had to try it. Her U2 one was totally amazing and I didn't have a hope matching that, expecially when there was just one question that I couldn't answer when I tried with AFI. But I changed to Rise Against and was suprisingly sucessful. So check it out:

Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, cleverly answer these questions. Pass it on to 10 people you like and include me. You can't use the band I used. Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think! Re-post as "my life according to (band name)."

Artist: Rise Against

Are you a male or female: Boy's No Good

Describe yourself: Like the Angel

How do you feel: Under the Knife

Where do you currently live: Whereabouts Unknown

If you could go anywhere, where would you go: Anywhere but Here

Your favourite form of transportation: Paper Wings

Your best friend is: Savior

You and your best friends are: Worth Dying For

What's the weather like: Dancing for Rain

Favourite time of day: Halfway There

If your life was a TV show, what would it be called: The Art of Losing

What is life to you: Historia Calamitatum (uh... it means the history of my calamities in case you were wondering)

Your relationship: Audience of One

Your fear: Weight of Time

What is the best advice you have to give: Sometimes Selling Out is Giving In

Thought for the Day: Remains of Summer Memories

How would you like to die: Chamber in the Cartridge

My soul's present condition: Everchanging

My motto: Rumours of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

You should try it yourself. Once you get the right band it's pretty easy (unless you're my brother who tried at least four bands before finally getting Parkway Drive to work for him). It's almost like problem solving but with music so it's heaps of fun (and heaps frustrating). Enjoy.

I Think it's About Time for a Disney Marathon

I'm currently downloading Disney songs and I was wondering what your favourite Disney songs are? (You cannot read this without posting an answer in the comments. My pet dragon will not let you. He's called Theodore.)
At the moment I'm loving I'll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan. I am seriously dancing and singing to that everywhere I go. "We must be a swift as the coursing river. With the force of a great typhoon. With the strength of the raging fire. Mysterious as the dark side of the moon." Who can hear that without pretending to do Kung Fu?
I've obviously already raided the Lion King for Hakuna Matata (the greatest no worries song this side of Three Little Birds), Can You Feel the Love Tonight (my favourite band piece to play on the flute, and a killer love song) and Be Prepared (the most hardcore song from my youth that is actually kind of Nazi now that I think of it...).
Anyways, I couldn't look past A Whole New World from Aladdin (he sounds like such a nervous teenager when he asks her if she wants to go for a magic carpet ride.) And then, when I got that, I had to get Arabian Nights as well, even though the original version was a little racist (well that can be expected of Disney, we did just have a Nazi reference. And these movies have the most horrific death scenes in the world. Hello, the Snow White's step-mother).
Lets see, what else have I gotten...
Of course, I had to get Belle from Beauty and the Beast because I have a strange feeling that song may be about me... (Although my name doesn't mean beauty... It's a flightless bird... Penguins are beautiful, right? Ah, forget it...) And it's one of my favourite fairy tales. It's pretty much the same as Eros and Psyche, my favourite myth. Anyway, today I plan to walk through the streets of my backwards town singing "There must be more than this provincial life."
I've got Colours of the Wind from Pocahontas. I had to do this after my friend accidentally downloaded the instrumental version so now I can rub it in her face and eventually give her the proper version. I think there is another song in this movie that I want but it's been a while since I last saw it so I can't really remember. Actually, it's been a while since I saw any Disney movies. Time for a Disney marathon.
Anastasia is of course a wonderful, yet another historically inaccurate, Disney movie, and since Once Upon a December had been the lullaby I have sung to myself when I can't sleep since I was a kid, it was an obvious choice for download.
And Somehow I also ended up downloading Once Upon a Dream from Sleeping Beauty. While definitely not my favourite Disney princess movie (well it's up against Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin), this song is surprisingly unforgettable.
Oh! And how did I forget Tarzan's You'll be in My Heart? I downloaded this song some time back to help me play it on the flute because truthfully I suck with anything musical. (Except remembering lyrics. But that's not useful when your singing sounds like a piglet that has been hit by a semi-trailer.).
Anyway, I think that is my list of currently owned Disney movies. Now I command you to tell me your favourite Disney songs (and movies) so I might be able to download those.
Thanks a bunch. Penguins xxx

McMusic

One of the things I love about working part time at MacDonald's is the ambient soundtrack. One of the things that scares me about working part time at MacDonald's is that I'm now aware that I have the majority of the Maccas soundtrack on my iPod.
But truthfully, our local MacDonald's does have one of the greatest play lists I've ever heard in a store.
If you come here you will sing at least part of one song. And truth be told, the managers and crew members are always bursting out into song. Although, I am yet to find one of us who can actually sing well.
The other day a customer and I broke out in a duet to the Police which was a really cool moment, actually. Even if it wasn't quite Food Court Musical.
The awesome soundtrack is pretty much made up of those songs you love to sing along to but may not be exactly willing to admit that you like. You know, like ABBA. I sing along to lots of bands like Queen, INXS and the Eurythmics, and of course killer songs like Don't Call Me Baby (I sadly know all the words). Nine to Five used to play a lot but the soundtrack has been changes since then. It was an unofficial rule that if you were working nine to five you had to sing along (and if you were working 5 to 9 you had to sing it backwards).
The Eurythmics are my favourite. When your mopping in the bathrooms you can't help but belt out a couple of lines to Would I Lie to You?
Are there any killer songs at your local fast food joint that make you jump up, dance and sing?

Rise Against Fantasies

I was listening to Rise Against while studying and had to turn if off because I kept getting distracted by jumping out of my chair and singing and dancing to songs like Six Way's 'til Sunday, Ready to Fall, Savior, Black Masks and Gasoline, Paper Wings and the Good Left Undone.
Anyway, it got me thinking. I'm not one to cave to peer pressure but I've always said to my brother that if Rise against came to my door and asked me to become a vegan, I would. If Rise Against came to my window and serenaded me about becoming a vegan than I certainly would. It's similar to how I'm straight edge, I've always sort of planned of staying straight edge, and I enjoy being straight edge. But when I discovered that Rise Against were straight edge it really motivated me to stay straight edge.
Anyway, this sort of got me fantasising. How doesn't imaging your favourite band serenading you not make you fantasise?
My fantasy pretty much involves Rise Against coming to my window and serenading me about become a vegan and then, when I agree, we fly to the coast in a hot air balloon while they play more songs for me and then we walk along the beach barefoot eating chips.
Is anyone else willing to admit absolutely ridiculous fantasies?

Blood red, white and blue

Would God bless the murder of the innocents?
Would God bless a war based on Pride?
Would God bless a money-hungry government?
No.
Would god bless our inefficent court systems?
God bless the sweatshops we run
God bless America
God bless America

Hell Yeah! Parkway Freaking Drive!!

Wow, that was awesome.
I saw Parkway Drive perform last night and wow.
Despite the WOW performance I have several complaints, most of which include poor etiquette.
1. Poor concert etiquette number one, to the organisers. The concert was supposed to start at 2. The line didn’t start moving until 2:30. We didn’t get in until 3:20. Also, it was raining. I got cold and wet and I have no body fat to keep me warm. And I missed the first band. Listen people. If the concert was set to start at 2, it should start at 2! Seriously!
2. Okay, so number two on my list of complaints has nothing to do with bad etiquette but more to do with my own personal faults. This complaint is the unintentional exploitation of my extreme and totally irrational wrist phobia. Yes I have a fully fledged phobia of wrists; you wanna make something of it? This complaint is based on the fact that when we finally got inside they marked my wrist with an X. In permanent marker! Not only did the feeling of the pen sliding across my wrist make me hyperventilate but having to cope with the scrubbing brush chaffing my wrist afterwards had me on the verge of throwing up. I know, I’m nuts, but that doesn’t mean this doesn’t bother me.
3. Poor concert etiquette number two goes to the moshers. I realise it’s a mosh pit, and everyone wants to get to the front so there’s a lot of pushing, but that does not mean you can start a fight! Everyone’s jumping and head banging and pushing. The mosh is like one massive pulse. Everyone is being pushed. So if someone pushes you, you do not need to push the guy back. Us twig-like people who snap easily would have much more fun if we didn’t need to worry about being hit and could rock out to violent screamo music in peace.
4. My final concern on concert etiquette goes to those who request songs. Okay, so you want to hear your favourite song, I get that, but your favourite song is most likely also the bands crowing achievement, and thus is going to be the song they save for the encore. So quit screaming for Romance is Dead after every song, enjoy what you get, and remember to request an encore (although, you know they’ll do it anyway).
So that’s my list of complaints. For some reason I’m convinced you’re there laughing at me right now but I had to make my point. Still, despite all these complaints, I had an awesome time and it was totally worth waiting over an hour in the rain.

Rise Against

Look!
I love Rise Against and I accidentally managed to get this link to their video Prayer of the refugee on here. I didn't do it on purpose, but now that it's here I might as well keep it. Anyway watch the video (that is, if it really works) and enjoy!

Bohemian Rhapsody

I like to think I'm slowly going insane.
I am trying to study, I promise you, but it is as if there are two people inside my head and when one isn't looking the other starts to play solitaire or starts typing something like this. I keep telling myself to stop but I will not listen.
I admit I am wont to distractions but this is just rediculous.

Study.

In February 1917 (by the Julian calander) a revolution took place in Russia in which the Tsarist government was over thrown and replaced by the Provisional government-

Three Little Birds

I had a stairwell party today.
It was my friend's birthday and I've always wanted to host an elevator party, but, lacking an elevator, I had to settle for the stairwell.
So we set up a table and chairs (stolen from maths detention) in the stairwell, ate jelly and fairy bread, drank a lot of coke and laughed excessively.
We had maths teachers and a music-teaching conspiracy-theorist (who was aforementioned in my JFK spiel) try to steal our food, a substitute who thought it was the most exciting think she ever saw, and a music teacher who saw us as 'a problem'. The music teacher was easily bribed with my 'healthy' fairy bread and a handful of Allen's lollies.
We had sugar hits that must boarder overdose and sang Bob Marley.
I wore a tie.
I had fun.
So...
"Don't worry about a thing, 'cause every little thing gonna be alright..."

Kiss and Control

"We all want to die like movie stars" you said as you jumped from the height of our cutting room floor while above us, glowing, exploding, our dreams burst forth in light and death. Hold me and tell me "We'll burn like stars. We'll burn as we fall. Watch as city lights dance for us."

Cursed ~ Carpathian

The realisation that I still don't know what I'm doing here, put in perspective; I am nothing (we are nothing). It feels like something has been wasted, and I am fading. Time is growing against me as I grow tired of being just another soul spent searching for something inside. I hate my f**king guts, I hate desire, I hate lust, I hate humanity, I hate instinctively, I hate this f**king world for f**king hating me.
The chasm in my chest screams of resounding emptiness. I've never tasted this bitterness, I never felt this solitude, worthlessness.
So what great vision is this to sail amongst the vast indifference; accept a trail to hollow senses, where only tragedy breaks the numbness? So what great epiphany will spell out beneath my feet? Chain my wrists, and admit defeat, imprisoned by 'the clarity'. So is this destiny, a doubtful life, feeling empty? Worst of all to make me guilty, blindest of the blind, telling me to see. I might hate this world, I might hate myself, but I won't be a wasted soul, another ghost like everyone else.

Warbrain

“Thoughts are the shadows of feelings, always darker, emptier, and simpler. I don't care if they're fake or real, I just thank them for showing up at all. I have black periods. Who does not? But they are not a part of me; they are not a part of illness, but a part of my being. What am I saying? I have the courage to have them. Four o' clock in the morning. This sucks.”

A Life Less Frightening

When asked what do I want most in the world I suddenly drew a blank.
Once the answer would have been easy. Once I would have answered immediately, without a second thought. What that answer would have been I will not go into. It is not important.
But now, when asked what do I want most in the world, I cannot answer.
That was until I heard a song this morning and now the answer is clear:

"I don't ask for much. Truth be told I'd settle for a life less
frightening"

A Life Less Frightening
